Before This Was Texas

Before This Was Texas

Workshop Presentation: March 28, 2011 | Kayen Arbor, Art Building, University of Texas at Austin

September 23-24, 2011 | Visual Arts Center, University of Texas, Austin, TX

Using collaborative ensemble work to create dramatic movement based on poetry by Austin-based poet Kimberly Alidio, Before This Was Texas explored bodies crossing borders and our relationship to this land called Central Texas.

The workshop production utilized the move-like effect of performing inside with an outside audience, and was presented as part of the Engaging Research component of the University Co-Op Cohen New Works Festival. The full presentation at the Visual Arts Center was designed site-specifically to interact with the exhibits on view at the Visual Arts Center, and was a roving performance. It drew inspiration from the Queer States exhibition.
